Russian Grammar

The Russian grammar allows you to manipulate the vocabulary to obtain multiple forms of a word. The grammatical rules below are the most important in Russian and help connect words or shape the structure. We start with the prepositions:

And: и  [i] Audio Under: под  [pod] Audio
Before: до  [do] Audio After: после  [poslye] Audio
Inside: внутри  [vnootri] Audio Outside: за пределами  [za pryedyelami] Audio
With: с  [s] Audio But: но  [no] Audio

Questions and Adverbs

To ask questions, use the following:

What?: что?  [chto?] Audio Who?: кто?  [kto?] Audio
How?: каким образом?  [kakim obrazom?] Audio Why?: почему?  [pochyemoo?] Audio
Where?: где?  [gdye?] Audio

Some of the most important time adverbs:

Never: никогда  [nikogda] Audio Rarely: редко  [ryedko] Audio

Always: всегда  [vsyegda] Audio Very: очень  [ochyenʲ] Audio

Most commonly used pronouns in Russian:

To express the possession of something [possessive form]:

My: мой  [moy] Audio Your: ваш  [vash] Audio

Our: наш  [nash] Audio Their: их  [ikh] Audio

Grammar in a sentence

Some random verbs to show how it's being used:

I speak English: я говорю по-английски  [ya govoryo po angliyski] Audio
You speak French: вы говорите по-французски  [vi govoritye po-frantzoozski] Audio
He speaks German: он говорит на немецком  [on govorit na nyemyetzkom] Audio
She speaks Italian: она говорит на итальянском  [ona govorit na italʲyanskom] Audio
I visited France: я посетил францию  [ya posyetil frantziyo] Audio
I will drink milk: я буду пить молоко  [ya boodoo pitʲ moloko] Audio

Some extra grammatical structures:

I understand you: я вас понимаю  [ya vas ponimayo] Audio
I don't understand you: я вас не понимаю  [ya vas nye ponimayo] Audio
I don't speak French: я не говорю по-французски  [ya nye govoryo po-frantzoozski] Audio
This is my house: это мой дом  [eto moy dom] Audio
That restaurant is far: это ресторан далеко  [eto ryestoran dalyeko] Audio
No problem: нет проблем  [nyet problyem] Audio
