The Japanese phrases are helpful because they are used daily. Below we picked expressions that a new learner will find useful. We included the audio as well. This is a better way to learning. Learn only what you need. We start with greetings and introduction.

Hi: こんにちは  [konnichiwa]

What is your name?: お名前は何ですか？  [o namae wa nan desu ka?]

Nice to meet you: どうぞよろしく。  [douzo yoroshiku]

How are you?: お元気ですか？  [o genki desu ka?]

I'm good, thanks: はい、元気です。  [hai, genki desu]

And you?: あなたは？  [anata wa?]

Language and Age Phrases

More questions about language and age:

Do you speak (English/Japanese)?: （英語・日本語）を話せますか？  [( eigo. nihongo ) o hanase masu ka?]

Does she speak Chinese?: 彼女は中国語が話せますか？  [kanojo wa chuugokugo ga hanase masu ka?]

A little bit: 少しだけ。  [sukoshi dake]

Offering or asking for help and giving directions:

Can I help you?: 何かお困りですか？  [nani ka o komari desu ka?]

Can you help me?: 助けてくれますか？  [tasuke te kure masu ka?]

Where is the airport?: 空港はどこですか？  [kuukou wa doko desu ka?]

Go straight: 真っ直ぐ行ってください。  [massugu it te kudasai]

Then: それから  [sorekara]

Turn left: 左へ曲がってください。  [hidari he magat te kudasai]

Turn right: 右へ曲がってください。  [migi he magat te kudasai]

Holiday Wishes Phrases

Good wishes in Japanese in holidays and occasions:

Happy birthday: お誕生日、おめでとう御座います！  [o tanjou bi, omedetou gozai masu!]

Happy new year: 明けましておめでとうございます！  [ake mashi te omedetou gozai masu!]

Merry Christmas: メリー･クリスマス！  [merī.kurisumasu!]

Good luck: 幸運を祈ります！  [kouun o inori masu!]

Congratulations: おめでとうございます！  [omedetou gozai masu!]

Japanese expressions commonly used when traveling or buying:

I have a reservation: 予約をしてあります。  [yoyaku o shi te ari masu]

Do you have rooms available?: 空いている部屋はありますか？  [ai te iru heya wa ari masu ka?]

I would like a non-smoking room: 禁煙室にしてください。  [kinen shitsu ni shi te kudasai]

How much it costs per night?: 一泊いくらですか？  [ippaku ikura desu ka?]

Waiter: ウェイター  [weitā]

How much is this?: 幾らですか。  [ikura desu ka]

What is this?: これは何ですか？  [kore wa nan desu ka?]

Survival phrases considered to be important in emergencies:

Are you okay?: 大丈夫ですか。  [daijoubu desu ka]

I need a doctor: 医者に診てもらう必要があります。  [isha ni mi te morau hitsuyou ga ari masu]

Help: 助けて！  [tasuke te!]

Call the ambulance: 救急車を呼んでください。  [kyuukyuu sha o yon de kudasai]

Call the police: 警察を呼んでください。  [keisatsu o yon de kudasai]

I am sick: 気持ちが悪いです。  [kimochi ga warui desu]
